The ITCG is set up in a central and in a peripheral structure. The first is headed by the General Command, responsible of the coordination and the control on all activities carried out by the "Capitanerie di Porto" (Coast Guard Offices) and the general coordination of the search and rescue activity, for which it serves itself of the depending Operational Center.
