National Coordination Authority for the International Navtex service
Service diffusion on frequency 518 kHz regarding:
Navigational Warnings – information search and rescue activities
This service is provided with a specific Navtex receiver, available from nautical equipment retailers;
this information can also be consulted at the Televideo (teletext of Italian State television) pages 718/1,2,3,4,5,6 and at Mediavideo (teletext of major private Italian television channels) page 184.
Starting from April 2nd, 2002 the International Navtex service has attained full operational capability in application of the amendments to the International Convention for the safety of life at sea "SOLAS".
The Coast Guard Headquarters, as national coordinator of the service, guarantees the broadcasting, on the 518 kHz frequency, in English language, of Navigational Warnings, S.A.R. (Search and Rescue) news, weather and sea forecasts and gale warnings usable by all units equipped with the specific receiver.
Information helpful to navigation is broadcast by four transmitting stations which, situated in Trieste, Augusta, Roma e Cagliari, assure the complete coverage of the Italian waters with a time split transmission system in accordance with I.M.O. Coordinating Panel directives.
